As your marriage celebrant, I must follow the guidelines provided by
The Marriage Act 1961.
If you would like to get Married, you will need to give your celebrant a minimum of 1 months notice but no more than 18 months notice.
As your Marriage Celebrant, together, we will fill in a NOIM - Notice of Intended Marriage.
You will also sign a form to declare that you are legally able to marry, a Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage.
I will ask you to bring the following documents to our initial interview (remembering that our first meeting is obligation free);
*Birth Certificates or Birth Extracts if born in Australia
*Overseas Passport if born outside of Australia (you can still marry here)
*Change of Name Form
*Divorce Certificate (if applicable)
*Death Certificate for previous spouse/s (if applicable)
It is also my legal obligation to supply the happy couple to be with a "Happily Ever Before and After" Brochure and provide options for relationship counselling.
In your ceremony, there are a few legal statements I need to make, which are able to be altered only slightly. The rest of the ceremony is able to be as personal to you as you wish, and I can assist you where needed.
FOR FUNERAL CEREMOMIES
I will most likely be your second point of call, your Funeral Director being the first. There are legal documents to fill in, but Community Funerals will provide you with those.
As your celebrant, I will work with you to personalise your loved ones ceremony and assist you to write your eulogies.
FOR ALL OTHER CEREMONIES
There are no legal requirements for my other ceremonies, I'm there to help write and guide you through your special day.
FOR MARRIAGE CEREMONIES;
WHAT DO I DO FIRST?
You're in the right spot! Contact me, make an appointment, bring your identifying documents to our initial meeting and we'll go from there. (see legal requirements for more information)
HOW MUCH NOTICE DO I NEED TO GIVE?
As a celebrant, I need a minimum of one month, but no more than eighteen months to lodge your intent to marry. You need to get married within this time frame.
WE WANT TO GET MARRIED SOONER THAN ONE MONTH, CAN WE?
You can, but you need an extraordinary reason such as;
*Medical/Illness reasons
*Travel/Employment commitments
*Legal reasons
You will be required to gain consent by requesting a "Shortening of Time", which isn't guaranteed to be given.
I'M NOT DIVORCED YET, CAN YOU STILL MARRY US?
I cannot marry you as you would be committing bigamy. But I can accept your NOIM, your intent to marry, if you are to be divorced within your chosen timeframe.
I must stress, if your divorce is not finalised, I cannot carry out your marriage ceremony.
WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO GIVE YOU?
(see legal requirements for more details)
All documents you supply me with need to be ORIGINAL documents.
If any of your documents are in another language, you will also need to supply a CERTIFIED translated document from a registered translator.
WHAT AM I PAYING YOU TO DO?
As your celebrant, I ensure that all your paperwork to be married is correct, legal and ready to be filed after your ceremony.
During our meetings, we'll chat and I'll get details about you as a couple. I will provide you with copious readings, vows and poems to help you personalise your ceremony.
I can guide you through your ceremony with a rehearsal prior to your big day.
I will be there on your wedding day to guide you through.
I will send off all your forms to register your marriage.
I also provide you with a PA system on the day, so your guests can hear you exchange your vows and a table and chairs for you to sign your Marriage Certificates.
WHERE CAN YOU MARRY US?
I can marry you anywhere, any time and in any scenario. I am based in Port Douglas, and can travel to Cairns and south, to the Tablelands, and north to Cape Tribulation. I'm also happy to travel interstate - at a cost to be discussed.
This is the form used to register your intent to marry with Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Using your birth certificate/passport/driver’s licence to fill in the information, after witnessed, you can marry after 1 month but before 18 months from the date signed.
I have to provide this brochure to you by law.
it suggests you have Marriage Counselling prior to your marriage.
It also has handy hints about changing your name, taxation changes and making a will.
I give you a hard copy in our first meeting.
